Edgewater Dog Walking Services in Chicago | Sparky Steps
Edgewater's trusted lakefront dog walkers
Looking for a reliable dog walker in Edgewater? Sparky Steps has cared for Chicago's pets since 2016, and Edgewater is a favorite of ours: a true lake-meets-city neighborhood with leafy historic streets, Andersonville's indie shops, and the beach just a short walk away. Our licensed, insured walkers know these blocks and parks, so your dog gets safe, friendly, joyful walks every day. We also serve neighboring Andersonville, Uptown, and Albany Park.
Where we walk in Edgewater
Edgewater hugs the shoreline of Lake Michigan, which makes it one of the best places in the city to walk a dog. We love the lake views and green space at Berger Park, the open sand at Foster Beach and Osterman Beach, and the northern end of the Lakefront Trail, where Lincoln Park finally runs out of room. Edgewater's own beaches are leashed, so when a pup is itching for off-leash time, we head a few minutes south to Montrose Dog Beach in Uptown.
Inland, the quiet, tree-canopied blocks of Edgewater Glen and the Lakewood-Balmoral Historic District are made for calm, comfortable walks under some of the oldest trees on the North Side. Andersonville's Clark Street is one of the most dog-friendly stretches around, and the Broadway, Sheridan, and Bryn Mawr corridors keep the neighborhood lively. With the Red Line stopping at Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, and Granville, plenty of Edgewater pet parents commute downtown and count on us for a midday walk while they are at work.
- We know the lakefront, Berger Park, and the quiet historic blocks firsthand
- Routes tailored for puppies, seniors, and shy or reactive dogs
- Fair pay and ethical care, so your walker is supported and reliable
- Trusted by families across Chicago's North Side

Our passion for Chicago pets
We are dedicated Chicago dog walkers who put safety, love, professionalism, and timeliness first. Sparky Steps was founded in 2016 with a dual mission: to spend our days caring for your pets, and to inspire our community to volunteer and adopt local shelter animals.
We are named after our founder's rescue dog, Sparky, to honor his legacy. He brought so much joy into our lives that we built our careers around animal welfare. Whether we are bundled up through a Midwest winter or out on a sunny stroll along the Edgewater lakefront, we care for these pets with the same love we gave to Sparky. Cheers bud, we miss you. ❤️

A little Edgewater history
Edgewater began in 1885, when developer John Lewis Cochran laid out the area's first lakefront subdivision and marketed it as the only electric-lighted suburb next to Chicago. He named the streets after train stops on Philadelphia's Main Line, which is why a walk here takes you past Bryn Mawr, Berwyn, Ardmore, and Thorndale. The grand Edgewater Beach Hotel drew visitors to the shore in the 1920s, and its pink sister building still marks the north end of Lake Shore Drive today. You can dig into all of it at the Edgewater Historical Society.
To the west, Andersonville grew up as a Swedish village, and that heritage still lives on Clark Street and at the Swedish American Museum. Edgewater was actually the last of Chicago's 77 community areas to be named, splitting from Uptown in 1980. For us, all that history adds up to one of the most walkable, dog-loving corners of the city, and we feel lucky to log miles here every day.
