Where we walk in Uptown
Uptown is one of Chicago's most vibrant lakefront neighborhoods, and it is a dream for dogs. We love the open shoreline at Montrose Beach, the off-leash fun at Montrose Dog Beach, and Puptown Dog Park tucked into Margate Park. The Lakefront Trail, Clarendon Park, Margate Park, and Chase Park give us green space and lake views in every direction. With your approval and your dog's DFA tags, we can fold in supervised off-leash time at Puptown or a splash at the dog beach, always with a close eye on safety, leash rules, and clean up.
Closer to home, the quiet, tree lined blocks of Buena Park and Sheridan Park make for calm, comfortable walks, while the Broadway, Sheridan, Wilson, Lawrence, and Argyle corridors keep the neighborhood buzzing. With the Red Line stopping at Wilson, Lawrence, and Argyle, many Uptown pet parents commute downtown and rely on us for a midday walk while they are at work.
- We know the lakefront, the dog beach, and Puptown firsthand
- Routes tailored for puppies, seniors, and shy or reactive dogs
- Fair pay and ethical care, so your walker is supported and reliable
- Trusted by families across Chicago's North Side

Undivided attention, enriching play, and plenty of affection, matched to your dog's energy.

For pets with health needs, our trained team gives safe, calm, on-time medication support.
Our passion for Chicago pets
We are dedicated Chicago dog walkers who put safety, love, professionalism, and timeliness first. Sparky Steps was founded in 2016 with a dual mission: to spend our days caring for your pets, and to inspire our community to volunteer and adopt local shelter animals.
We are named after our founder's rescue dog, Sparky, to honor his legacy. He brought so much joy into our lives that we built our careers around animal welfare. Whether we are bundled up through a Midwest winter or out on a sunny stroll along the Uptown lakefront, we care for these pets with the same love we gave to Sparky. Cheers bud, we miss you. ❤️
Free Meet & Greet: let's make sure we're a perfect fit
Choosing pet care is a big decision, so we offer a 100% free Meet & Greet. Think of it as a mutual interview: it matters that you feel comfortable with us, and it helps us learn your pet's unique needs. Your Uptown dog is paired with the same trusted walkers, fully trained backups, and a management team on standby, so your dog always sees a familiar face and your care never skips a beat.

A little Uptown history
For more than a hundred years, Uptown has been one of Chicago's favorite places to gather. In the 1920s it was the city's entertainment capital outside the Loop, and the marquees of the Aragon, the Riviera, the Uptown Theatre, and the Green Mill still light up Lawrence and Broadway today. Along Argyle Street, a thriving Vietnamese and pan-Asian community earned the area its "Asia on Argyle" nickname, complete with a summer night market that draws the whole North Side.
Through all of it, the lakefront has stayed Uptown's backyard. What began as a summer resort for downtown families is now a daily playground for dogs, from the off-leash sand at Montrose Dog Beach to the trails around Margate Park. We feel pretty lucky to walk it every day.
The founder of Sparky Steps has a special connection to this neighborhood as Michael actually graduated from Truman College back in 2013!
