The vet visit is at 2 PM and your meeting runs until 4. One of the same trusted sitters your pet already knows picks them up, drives them there, checks them in, and comes back for them when the vet is done. You get photos and notes the whole way.
Available to Sparky Steps clients after a free Meet and Greet. We do not drive a pet we have not met. Every trip is booked in advance and subject to a sitter being available.

Pickup
Your sitter arrives at your door on the agreed window and checks the collar, leash, and carrier before anything opens.

We check your pet in, pass along your notes, and send you a photo the moment they are through the door.

The appointment
Your pet is in the vet's hands. Your sitter arranges the return pickup with the front desk and heads back out, so you are not paying for a waiting room chair. Want us to stay? $25 per half hour when the schedule allows.

Home again
When the front desk says they are ready we head back, bring them inside, top off the water, and file a full report in DoTimely with photos and anything the vet passed along.

Annual exams, vaccine boosters, dental cleanings, follow ups, and discharge pickups after a procedure.
Grooming
Drop off, pick up, or both. We coordinate the timing with the groomer so nobody is left waiting.

Getting your dog to a facility on a travel morning, or home again the day you land.
Rehab and specialty care
Recurring physical therapy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and specialist appointments across the city.
Moving day
Your pet rides with a familiar face while the movers work, then settles in at the new place with you.

Ask. We can decline a trip if it is not safe or workable, but we would rather hear the request than have you assume no.
How we keep your pet safe on the road
A car ride is the least familiar part of any of this, so it gets the most structure.
- Cats, rabbits, birds, and small animals travel in a secured carrier, yours or ours.
- Dogs travel in a crash tested harness clipped to a seat belt anchor. No loose dogs, no lap riding.
- One household per trip. We never transport unrelated pets together, same as our walking policy.
- Current rabies record on file before the first trip, where it applies to the animal.
- Leash, collar, and carrier latch checked before any door opens, at both ends of the trip.
- Your pet is never left alone in the vehicle. Not for a minute, not in any weather.
- Most of our field team is certified in cat and dog first aid.
- Your vet release and treatment authorization are already on file from your service agreement.
The anxious traveler. Plenty of pets hate the car. Tell us at the Meet and Greet and we will plan for it: a covered carrier, a slower loading routine, a towel from home that smells right, and a heads up to you if the ride is rough. If your vet has prescribed something for travel anxiety, we can give oral medication. We do not give injections.
What a pet taxi costs
A round trip is two separate trips on the same day, which is why it costs less than booking two one ways. Everything runs through your normal Sunday billing.

Tolls, parking, and meter fees are passed through at cost and appear on your weekly invoice. Veterinary and grooming charges are paid by you directly to that provider, so keep a card on file with them. A return trip after 5 PM picks up the off hours rate. All rates assume a sitter is available on the day you need, which is why we ask you to book before scheduling the appointment itself.
What we do not do
Better to know now than at 8 AM on the day of the appointment.
- We do not transport a pet we have never met. The free Meet and Greet comes first, always.
- We do not transport dogs with a history of aggression, biting, or handler reactivity.
- We do not run an emergency ambulance service. We are not a mobile vet and we are not staffed for a 3 AM crisis.
- We do not give injections. Oral medication is fine, needles are not.
- We do not make medical decisions for you. Stay reachable during the appointment, because the vet will call you directly, not us.
- We do not stack multiple households into one trip to save money. Ever.
- We do not run on demand. Every trip is booked in advance and confirmed against a sitter's schedule, so please wait for our confirmation before you lock in the appointment.

What is a pet taxi?
A pet taxi is a driver who takes your pet to an appointment and back when you cannot. At Sparky Steps that driver is one of the same trusted sitters who already cares for your pet, not a stranger from an app. We handle the pickup, the check in, the wait, and the trip home, and you get photos and a written report in DoTimely.
Do you stay with my pet during the appointment?
Not by default. Your pet is in the vet's care during the appointment itself, and your sitter arranges the return pickup with the front desk before heading back out. That is what keeps the price down, because you are not paying for a waiting room chair. If you would rather your sitter stayed, we can when the schedule allows, at $25 per half hour. Ask when you book.

Can you take my pet if I have never used Sparky Steps before?
Not for the first trip. We need a free Meet and Greet first so we know your pet, your pet knows us, and we have your vet release and rabies record on file. Once that is done, pet taxi is available like any other service. The Meet and Greet usually takes about twenty minutes.
How much does a pet taxi cost in Chicago?
A Sparky Steps round trip is $85 and covers both trips on the same day: pickup and check in, then collection and the ride home. A single one way trip is $50. Having your sitter wait on site through the appointment is an optional $25 per half hour. Trips outside our service area start at $50 plus $2.50 per mile past the first five. Tolls and parking are passed through at cost.
Who pays the vet, and what if they need to reach me?
You pay the practice directly, so keep a card on file with them or settle it by phone, because your sitter will not be there at checkout. Stay reachable during the appointment window too: the vet will call you with anything they find, not us. We handle the driving, the check in, and the ride home.
