ONEEYEDLILYCORG - Sparky Steps - SPARKandBARK INTERVIEWS
We interviewed Morgan Cooper from Cleveland, Ohio, USA with her pet Lily, A.K.A. ONEEYEDLILYCORG on Instagram!

Tell us about Lily!

"Lily is such a special corgi who had a rough first 6 years of life. She started out in a puppy mill who was used for breeding. With many other corgis, Lily was kept alone in a home without running or any air or heat. Once Lily was rescued from there, she went to live with an older family in Maine who loved her very much. During her time there she became extremely overweight and started to have an eye problem. Lily’s previous owner lost her husband could not care for Lily anymore which is where our story begins! We found Lily on a Facebook posting and she was rehomed to us in Ohio from Maine. She was going blind in her bad eye and we knew she would need it removed. When we rescued Lily, she weighed 50 pounds when she should weigh around 25-30 pounds to be a healthy weight. For her to have a safer eye surgery since she would be going under anesthesia and considering her age, she needed to lose weight before she could have her eye removed. Over 8 months we helped her lose half her body weight by increasing exercise and supplementing her food with frozen green beans. This helped keep her tummy full while keeping the calories down. Since we adopted Lily, our lives have become so enriched and full of love. Lily loves everyone she meets and has a smile on her face every single day. She doesn’t let being disabled or having a rough start at life keep her down. Lily is a fighter and a lover. She has been a great addition to our family, and we are so lucky to have such a great dog like her."

Who are you? What are you about!

"I’m Morgan! My wife Honor and I live with our four fur babies near the shore of Lake Erie. We have four rescues- 2 pups Lily and Shiloh and 2 cats Nina and Bella. We like to take our pups out exploring in the community and relaxing together at home."

Where did you meet?

"Lily was brought to us from the Corgi Coalition Transport Team. My wife saw a posting of her on Facebook and that she was coming to Ohio. I messaged the woman who posted it (Linda) and simply asked how Lily was with cats. Out of the 50 or so messages flooding her inbox about Lily, she answered me! The rest was history!"

Tell us a story!

"Lily does a food dance EVERY time it’s time to eat. Both my wife and I work full time jobs, so we keep our dogs on a schedule. Lily has learned when it’s time to eat and dances in the living room with a big smile on her face. If that doesn’t summarize her love for life and snacks, I’m not sure what does!"

What do you think it means to be a pet? What is a pet's purpose in this life?

"I think, no. I know it’s more than being a pet- it’s being a family member. They are there through it all and love you unconditionally every step of the way. They are the pieces of your heart you never knew you were missing till you find them."

What do you think are the most pressing issues that are in the pet industry today?

"Humane Treatment of Animals"

Do you think it's more important to talk about the issues or act on them?

"Both!"

Thank you for your response Lily sounds so adorable and I'm very happy she found you. Lot's of pups have a rough start but it's nice to hear and know things can always turn around for the better. I hope this will Spark someone to go out and make a difference in an animal’s life. Lily sounds so loved! We are so lucky to have doggies in our life.
