📊 3. Treating It Like a Real Business (1099 Mindset)

Our walkers are independent contractors (1099). That means you’re your own boss of your route, and with that comes responsibility.

• Save 20–30% for taxes — no one is withholding for you, so you’ll need to plan ahead.

• Track your expenses — gas, mileage, leashes, treats, phone use, marketing materials, even part of your home office may be deductible. These reduce your taxable income. Be sure to talk with a certified accountant for more information.

• Think Entrepreneurially: You’re growing your own route, managing your schedule, and shaping your reputation. The more ownership you take, the more rewarding it becomes. You’re in charge of your growth, of course, we will help you every step of the way!

• Consider forming an LLC (not required, but can be useful for protection and tax planning).

• Helping fellow walkers when they need coverage.

• Benefiting from our backup system (up to 15 days per month of partial pay when you take time off and find/ secure a certified back up for your services).

• Balancing fairness: when you cover, you earn 50%. When you take off, you receive 50%.

Our system gives you up to 15 days of partial pay time off each month. Here’s how it works: if you need backup, another walker can cover your visits, and you’ll still receive 50% of the pay. When you return the favor for someone else, you’ll earn 50% covering their visits. It balances out, and it gives everyone peace of mind that they’re not alone.

No one should have to choose between keeping clients and taking care of themselves. Teamwork makes this community thrive.

Clients trust us with their pets and homes. That means being:

• On time to every walk.

• Proactive in emergencies.

• Careful with keys and entry security.

• Focused on safety for pets, clients, and yourself during every visit.

Reliability is the #1 trait of a successful walker.

Great walkers know how to communicate clearly with:

• Clients (updates, check-ins, questions, concerns).

• Management (scheduling, emergencies).

• Fellow walkers (backup coordination).
